Effective January 27, 2025, New Zealand’s new visa policy allows foreign visitors to engage in remote work for overseas employers or clients while residing in the country.

Under the revised visitor visa rules, individuals entering the country with a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) can legally perform remote work, aligning with the growing trend of digital nomadism.

Additionally, any work requiring physical presence at a New Zealand workplace is not allowed. Visitors keen on extending their stay must remain cognizant of tax implications, particularly if their remote work exceeds 90 days. The New Zealand government recommends that such individuals consult a tax advisor or refer to the country’s tax guidelines for clarity on their obligations.
